New Mexico-BLM Releases Draft Plan for Prehistoric Trackways National Monument

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has released a Draft Resource Management Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Draft RMP/Draft EIS) for the Prehistoric Trackways National Monument administered by the Las Cruces District Office in southern New Mexico.

The Trackways National Monument is also home to the nationally famous Chili Canyon extreme 4×4 rock crawling trails and the Chili Challenge, a popular annual rock crawling event hosted by the Las Cruces Four Wheel Drive Club

In 2009, Congress passed the Omnibus Public Land Management Act (Act) which designated the Prehistoric Trackways National Monument.  The Act also requires that the Secretary of the Interior develop a comprehensive management plan for the long-term protection and management of the site.

The Draft RMP/Draft EIS analyzed four alternatives and is now available for a 90-day public review and comment period. Comment info and a link to the EIS is below. Stay tuned for more info and analysis on this important plan.

As always, please call or email if you have any questions or comments.
