MORGANTOWN, WV – August 12, 2011 – Since the inception of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship in 1972, several of the sport’s most renowned U.S. riders have gone to great lengths to help pave the way for the future of American Motocross both on and off the track. This weekend at the Rockstar Energy Unadilla National, the Legends and Heroes Tour will recognize several of these pioneers by inviting Marty Smith, Gary Bailey, Tony DiStefano and Jimmy Weinert to be special guests at the ninth round of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
Smith, the first AMA 125cc Motocross Champion in the history of the sport, will kick off the weekend festivities by hosting a private reception for those taking part in the amateur racing schedule surrounding the Rockstar Energy Unadilla National on Friday evening. Beginning at 11 a.m. EST, and lasting right up until the start of opening ceremonies at 12 noon EST, Smith, Bailey, DiStefano and Weinert will sign autographs for the fans and bench race about the sport.
As part of the excitement of opening ceremonies, Smith will be honored by the Legends and Heroes Tour with a special, one-of-a-kind award. He’ll rejoin the fans later that afternoon at the display to talk more racing, and take questions from the fans.
