Introducing the all-new 2014 Can-Am Commander MAX 1000 family of side-by-sides, which feature comfortable, stadium-style seating for four grown adults; this vehicle offers the most innovative and versatile rec-utility performance in the industry. Based on the successful Can-Am Commander 800R and 1000 two-seat side-by-side vehicles, the Commander MAX platform features a 29.5-inch (75mm) longer wheelbase and unmatched comfort for the rear passengers. Available in both a DPS and XT package, the Commander MAX measures 147.8 inches (375.4cm) long and 58.6 inches (148.8cm) wide and comes in three colors (including camouflage). It also includes Dynamic Passenger Comfort, rear stadium seating and also has large 220mm front brakes. The new side-by-side also features Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering, enhanced heat reduction in the cockpit, updated rear differential, ECO mode and a 3-D analog / digital background that all Commander vehicles received for 2014. The extremely versatile and capable side-by-side retains its proven and durable makeup, including its industry-exclusive Dual-level cargo box, Rotax 1000 EFI V-Twin engine, TTI rear suspension, D.E.S.S., Visco-Lok QE front differential, 1,500-pound towing capacity, 10-gallon (37.8 litres) fuel tank and much more. CAN-AM COMMANDER MAX 1000 DPS FAMILY FEATURES AND BENEFITS

INDUSTRY-LEADING PERFORMANCE
ROTAX 1000 EFI V-TWIN ENGINE
The Rotax 1000 80º V-twin is the most powerful rec-utility side-by-side engine in the industry*. The 85-horsepower, liquidcooled, single overhead cam power plant features four valves per cylinder and is fed by a 54mm Bosch throttle body and two VDO Seimens fuel injectors. The sophisticated electronic fuel injection system automatically keeps the engine’s performance at its peak, regardless of temperature or altitude. A throttle-by-wire system that works in conjunction with the 54mm Bosch
throttle body to produce smooth throttle delivery even if one’s foot bounces due to the terrain. The iTC system detects unwanted bounces and filters the input, resulting in more throttle accuracy, especially at low speed. This system also reduces the number of moving parts in the vehicle; requires no maintenance; has no cables to adjust, lubricate, or replace; and the system has an increased life span.

EPA / CARB COMPLIANT DESIGN
Located within the side-by-side vehicle’s muffler, a new catalyst and lambda sensor is EPA and CARB compliant.

INTELLIGENT THROTTLE CONTROL (ITC)
The throttle-by-wire system teams with the 54mm Bosch throttle body to produce smooth throttle delivery even if the driver’s foot is bouncing due to the terrain. The iTC system can detect unwanted bounces and then filter the input, resulting in more throttle accuracy, especially at low speed. This system also reduces the number of moving parts in the vehicle; requires no maintenance; has no cables to adjust, lubricate, or replace; and the system has an increased life span.

ECO MODE
The Commander side-by-side offers selectable Sport mode, which offers a more linear throttle control for performance driving,
and the new ECO mode for driving under normal use situations.

PRECISION-ENGINEERED HANDLING

NEW REAR DIFFERENTIAL
A new spiral bevel gear rear differential was added to the Commander side-by-side to reduce noise.

DOUBLE A-ARM FRONT SUSPENSION WITH DIVE-CONTROL GEOMETRY
The Double A-arm suspension uses front dive-control geometry, which works to eliminate diving under heavy braking and rough terrain. By controlling vehicle dive, the Can-Am Commander handling is more precise in all situations and terrain types. The front end, which features 10 inches of travel (25cm), has the largest diameter front five-way preload-adjustable gas shocks in the industry for overall durability and better fade resistance.

TRAILING TORSIONAL INDEPENDENT (TTI) REAR SUSPENSION
Inspired from the world of top-level, off-road trophy trucks, this trailing arm design provides excellent control and stability, especially in rough terrain by eliminating scrub. Wheels move rearward as they move up and down producing a smoother ride than the competition, and the side-by-side does not waver down the trail. TTI reduces tire wear and has 75 percent fewer parts than competitive designs. The durable rear end features 10 inches of travel (25 cm) and the largest diameter rear, five-way preload-adjustable gas shocks in the industry for reduced fading.

11 INCHES (27.9CM) OF TOTAL GROUND CLEARANCE
Offers 11 inches (27.9cm) of total ground clearance for maximum performance in challenging terrain. We built sag right in to the suspension, which lets the system work in its travel “sweet spot.”

TRI-MODE DYNAMIC POWER STEERING (DPS)
Calibrated specifically for use in the Commander line of side-by-side vehicles, BRP’s Tri-Mode DPS system offers variable steering assistance and is designed to offer less assist at high speed and more assist at low speed. It also allows the driver to dial in his or her preference with three modes (Hi, Med, Lo).

VISCO-LOK QE
All DPS-equipped models come with the Visco-Lok QE calibration giving an even quicker engagement of the front differential. It progressively transfers power from a slipping front wheel to the gripping one – automatically with no buttons to push or levers to pull. Plus, there’s no wheel hop or driveline wind-up so the system is totally transparent to the driver and extremely easy to steer. Can lock up to 100 percent with no rev or speed limiter. This differential, unlike some competitor’s differentials, does not have a speed or rev limiter. DPS and Visco-Lok QE, when, combined, improve handling and performance in slow-speed technical terrain

220MM / 214MM DISC BRAKES WITH TWIN-PISTON CALIPERS
For greater stopping power, the Commander MAX units feature larger front 220mm disc brakes and 214mm rear disc brakes with twin-piston calipers.
27-INCH (68.6CM) MAXXIS BIGHORN 2.0 TIRES
Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires feature a rugged six-ply radial construction, yet are lightweight to cut down on unsprung weight. The non-directional tires absorb the terrain for a smooth ride and provide predictable cornering. They’re also very capable climbing and clawing across roots, rocks and other tough terrain.

14-INCH (35CM) CAST-ALUMINUM WHEELS
Strong-yet-lightweight and fashionable larger 14-inch, machined, cast-aluminum wheels give the Commander MAX 1000 DPS a unique look.

RIDER-FOCUSED DESIGN

DYNAMIC PASSENGER COMFORT
Dynamic Passenger Comfort ergonomics means offering optimal seating, viewing and comfort for rear seated passengers. The rear seats feature the same ergonomics as the front passenger seat, in terms of both lumbar and shoulder support as well and the overall seat design. The rear passenger area also includes a total of four handholds, easy-clip side nets and stress-free access.

STADIUM-STYLE REAR SEATS
Raised 3.5 inches higher than the front seats, the rear passenger seating features stadium-style positioning for increase passengers visibility while moving down the trail. This design element not only improves the rear passenger’s sight lines, but also creates a more interactive environment.

PASSENGER HANDHOLDS AND GRAB BARS
The Commander MAX line of side-by-side vehicles offers the same handhold setup for the front passenger as found in the two-seat Commander SxS. The dual handhold design, which includes a grab bar and a left-hand grip bar, features ergonomically friendly bends and optional hand placement for supreme comfort and convenience. The rear passenger area also includes a total of four handholds for the rear passengers. There is a grip bar on the center console for each passenger as well as an additional grab bar near the cage.

CLIP SIDE NETS
Designed to keep a clear field of vision for the driver and passengers, the front and rear side nets on the Commander MAX 1000 vehicles can be opened and closed with just one click. They are also built to simplify the entry and exit of the vehicle.

THREE-POINT SEATBELTS WITH ANTI-CINCH
To ensure the occupants have peace of mind and comfort inside the Commander MAX, Can-Am engineers outfitted it with threepoint seatbelt with anti-cinch, front and rear. There’s also a warning alert if the driver’s belt is not fastened properly.

DUAL, OFF-ROAD CUP HOLDERS
Twin cup holders, located in the center console, have rubber flaps for off-road use.

DUAL-LEVEL CARGO BOX
The Commander MAX 1000 features the industry’s first cargo box with two levels separated by a removable, watertight panel. It offers the possibility to have an upper and a lower bed with and independent tailgate. Carrying capacity of the box is a 600-pound total capacity. (400 lbs. upper, 200 lbs. lower) and has the most volume capacity in the market. The tilt-assist dump box can be easily activated from both sides. The heavy-duty, high-strength cargo box is resistant to rust and dents. Easily removable tail gates (upper and lower), no-tools needed with single latch, truck-like, upper and lower tail gate with four tie down hooks located in corners. Integrated vertical grooves for plywood dividers and the Can-Am An optional trunk lock is available to secure the lower level.
