The Bass Lake Ranger District of the Sierra National Forest proposes to determine a trail alignment, staging areas and season of use that avoid or mitigate effects to natural and cultural resources for the 007 Motorized Trail. The 007 Motorized Trail is located in Madera County, CA. in T7S, R22E and R23E; Mt Diablo Base and Meridian. The route starts adjacent to Forest Service Road 6S42, Central Camp Road.

The proposed action is to designate the 007 route that follows an approximately 6-miles long route. The 007 route, a very popular user defined route used by the recreating public for many years, has been brought forward, as a request by the OHV community, to be added into the National Forest Transportation System (NFTS).  The project will develop needed social, economic and natural resource impacts and information to determine the purpose and need for the 007 route to establish it’s designation as a trail.

The designated route would be aligned to minimize potential impacts to the known cultural and natural resources in the vicinity. Inclusion of this route will enhance and sustain OHV recreation by adding an element of connectivity and diversity to the OHV recreation experience, including providing access to fishing areas, camping, bicycling and hiking in this area of the District. See a map of the proposed 007 route here. Other information on the project can be found on the Forest’s website at http://www.fs.fed.us/nepa/fs-usda-pop.php/?project=35501.
